המחקר הפוסט־סטרוקטורליסטי על אודות מדיום ההדפס מזהה את תהליך ההדפסה עם סטנדרטיזציה ומכניזם, ומאפיין את מהדורת ההדפסים בסדרתיות ובחזרות. הדיון הצומח מעמדה זו מתמקד במתח בין מקור והעתק, ולרוב מתעלם מהייחודיות החומרית של אובייקט האמנות ומהנוכחות הגופנית של העוסקות במלאכה. על אף הכוח המושגי של עמדה זו, מתפספסים בה ההיבטים הפיזיים של הסדנה. בניגוד לכך, המחקר הנוכחי בוחן את תנאי העבודה המסוימים בתחריט כגורמי השפעה על צורות החשיבה וחוויות הגוף של האמניות באופן שאינו מוגבל לחלוקה דיסציפלינרית. אאפיין את עבודותיהן של שרון פוליאקין, הילה בן ארי ודורית רינגרט כ"אמנות הדפסית", ואראה כיצד ניכרת הטמעה עמוקה של פרוצדורות ההדפס גם באלו מביניהן אשר אינן עונות לקריטריונים המקובלים של המדיום. אטען כי התנועה הסיבובית והאופקית במכבש והלחץ הכרוך בהפעלתו, המגע בין הנייר והפלטה והשינויים העוברים על השניים, הם לא רק תנאים טכנים אלא גם כר פורה שלתוכו יוצקות האמניות את עולמות התוכן שלהן
